Environmental Psychology

Studio dVO has extensive experience in designing and conducting environmental psychology research. Studio dVO supervises or conducts research. Studio dVO owns various instruments and offers the possibility to compare user satisfaction results with data from previous surveys conducted by Studio dVO.

TO MEASURE IS TO KNOW

Digging deep in the beginning pays off in the end

Environmental psychology research provides insight into:

  • the strengths and weaknesses of a design or building
  • the perception of the users
  • the degree of success of the strategic goals
  • potential medical and economic benefits (e.g., absenteeism, medical errors, patient transfers, staff turnover)

By determining in advance what you want to achieve with a new building (e.g., reduced staff absenteeism, increased patient safety, and reduced medical errors), it is possible to chart whether these goals were actually achieved after the building is occupied.

Not only does this data reflect the success of a deliberate design process based on credible data, but it is also invaluable for subsequent building projects.

EVIDENCE BASED DESIGN RESEARCH

What is the purpose of the building?

POST OCCUPANCY EVALUATIONS

Is the building doing what it should be doing?

Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) is an evaluation of a building after it has been occupied. It examines whether the building meets the requirements and expectations of the various clients and users.

How is the building experienced by the various users? Is it functional and efficient to use? Does the building have any unexpected and unintended negative aspects for the users?

PRE – POST COMPARISON
A pre- and post-measurement of the perception and use of a building by its various users.

PERCEPTION SURVEY
Qualitative research on the perception of different aspects of the environment by different users.
